Sunscreen products rated SPF 30+ are old news – SPF 50+ is now the new super-high factor protection available.

Coolashade Shade Sails give excellent sun protection, as does SPF50+ Sunscreens rated at SPF 50+ have begun to appear on the shelves of stores, but consumers are being warned not to be complacent simply because the products have a high rating.

“Consumers will have a greater choice of sun protection products, but while SPF 50+ sunscreens will provide better broad spectrum performance, this does not mean you are completely protected from the harmful effects of the sun,” Australian parliamentary secretary for health and ageing, Catherine King said. Shade sails to be used to protect the Great Barrier Reef

A paper recently published in Nature Climate Change speaks of a plan devised by scientists in Australia to protect the Great Barrier Reef from damage by installing shade sails on the surface of the ocean above the fragile coral reef. The proposal would mean covering the reefs with cloth thus shading them from sunlight which would reduce the bleaching that is damaging them so intensively. The massive sheets of cloth would be anchored with ropes attached to pontoons and made to float on the surface of the water in a bid to shield the reef from the strong rays of sunlight.

Australian marine biologist Russell Hore said that while the idea had seemed laughable, everything had to be considered to protect the World Heritage-listed reef. “Although it would be impossible to shade all 348,000 square kilometers of the entire reef, an area of small shade cloths will prove that coral bleaching can be tackled by reducing light and temperature”, he said. Coolashade Shade Sails – Where Quality Does Matter!

Coolashade is based in the Costa Blanca region of Spain where the days are warm and the sun shines brightly for many days of the year. As we begin to head into summer, regular warnings of using adequate sun protection start to appear in the local newspapers. Most of us know how important it is to apply sunscreen and cover up our heads and skin if we are not wearing suntan lotion, and how vital it is for youngsters to be properly protected. But what else do we need to think about when we consider sun protection?

I have recently read a few newspaper articles warning against buying cheap sunglasses from the illegal street sellers, also known as the ‘looky looky’ men, that ply their trade along the coastal seafront promenades.
